Before the vines, there was the land.Antes de las vides, estaba la tierra.

In the 1970s, Eduardo's father bought a piece of ground high in the Sacramento Mountains, near Cloudcroft in Otero County. It sits at almost 7,000 feet. That is higher than most people imagine a vineyard can be, and a long way from anywhere famous for wine.

En los años setenta, el padre de Eduardo compró un terreno en lo alto de las montañas Sacramento, cerca de Cloudcroft, en el condado de Otero. Está a casi 7,000 pies de altura. Más alto de lo que muchos imaginan que puede estar un viñedo, y muy lejos de cualquier lugar famoso por su vino.

He couldn't have known what his son would do with it. But he gave the family something to stand on, and three generations later, we're still standing on it.

What we can tell you is how it turned out. The vines took. The wine got better. Our sparkling wine brought home a silver medal from a regional Southwest competition, and an Albuquerque food writer came up the mountain and called us a “high desert surprise.” Eduardo has never claimed a secret. We just farm it carefully.

Lo que sí podemos contarte es cómo salió. Las vides prendieron. El vino fue mejorando. Nuestro espumoso ganó una medalla de plata en un concurso regional del Suroeste, y una voz de la crítica gastronómica de Albuquerque subió la montaña y nos llamó «una sorpresa del desierto alto». Eduardo nunca ha dicho tener un secreto. Solo cuidamos la tierra con esmero.

A vineyard is two jobs: making the wine, and welcoming the people who come to drink it. Eduardo's daughters have split it down the middle, and neither half is the lesser one.

Un viñedo son dos trabajos: hacer el vino y recibir a quienes vienen a tomarlo. Las hijas de Eduardo se lo repartieron por la mitad, y ninguna de las dos mitades vale menos que la otra.
